For my guess I will go with 10 million or less. Is there any way to estimate exactly how many people own Bitcoin?
I think the number is a lot less than the number of addresses registered on the blockchain. Most peeps will have multiple addresses too. Lots of Chinese owners to - up to 70%.
I would think maybe 8 to 12 million. Probably at least half of those in the U.S. and China alone. I saw an estimate a few years ago of about 3 or 4 million so I think it is fair to say that has more or less tripled by now.
Interesting fact: 40% of bitcoin is owned by about 1000 people.
@joes Yeah I saw that number before. Crazy how much wealth those handful of people have now that Bitcoin has exploded compared to what it was 3 or 4 years ago.
I know a good few people who nearly invested in bitcoin tech before the explosion who are kicking themselves now :) @roryk
@joes Myself included. I first started looking into Bitcoin when it was only around $200 and I was seriously considering investing in some mining hardware. I actually got a bit without having to pull from my pocket from some different websites and I remember one gambling site that gave out 0.01 BTC for free. But I ended up losing it (by gambling haha). Wish I had that extra bit now. It'd be worth over a hundred bucks.
